Note on scene photosDemonstrating lighting in a photo is very difficult as the dynamic range of the human eye is huge: You can read a newspaper in full moon and full sunlight - an illumination range of 1:300000! A photo can show a range of perhaps 1:10. For that reason, each scene is scaled to full illumination at maximum setting, this means when the lamp is set at full power, the scene is fully illuminated. This is necessary as it is difficult showing the illumination range even then and makes comparing the absolute level of light between scenes impossible. The linear response of the camera exaggerates differences in illumination, lower levels seem much darker in the photo than in reality. The light distribution, however, is reproduced exactly.
